Example: This is my second year showing pigs and my barrow, Sassy, is living up to his name. He refuses to walk and just wants to run like a track star. I've tried x, y, and z. I use marshmallow treats and (equipment name). I think I checked everything I need help with below. Please let us know if you can help.
Example: This is my student’s first year showing. We need help with training, feed, supplies, fair rules, routines, saving money, and finding buyers. I checked everything I think is relevant below. My student wants to show a lamb or goat but we don’t know where to get one. We’ll be staying at the fairgrounds in a tent, jockey quarters, or RV. Which is best? My student is shy and has a slight stutter so he/she tends to be soft spoken. My student loves animals, is a very hard worker, and wants to be a veterinarian.
Example: This is my first year as a 4-H Leader. I have some experience with goat showmanship, but our members want to start showing chickens and rabbits. We don’t have housing or equipment yet, but we do have land available to build on. I’d like help planning lessons that cover building animal housing, training, identification, and creating supply lists for both practice and fair.
Which animals do you want to train or learn about?
Where are you in your showmanship journey?
Which topics will help you feel confident in the ring?
If you feel comfortable, please share any specific needs your student has so your credentialed teacher can help design lessons that suite the needs of your student(s). Example 1: My student is color blind, making red and green look the same. Example 2: I serve students who would like to show animals. My students are diagnosed with autism, ADHD, and cerebral palsy. They could benefit from distraction free lessons, short summarized lessons, and alternative lessons for grasping objects.
If you need location specific support for purchasing animal feed or livestock projects, please let me know your City, State, Distance You Are Willing to Travel, and If You Have Access to a Trailer. Example 1: I live in San Bernadino, CA. I am willing to travel 9 hours total. I can borrow a truck and trailer from my neighbor. Example 2: I live in San Antonio, Texas. I can't travel, but I am willing to pay for my animal to be transported to our farm.
To help your teacher provide accurate advice about weights, grooming, and other fair rules, please provide a link to any fairs you plan on attending. Specific links to the livestock exhibitor section is appreciated so your teacher can see any updates your fair adds.

I joined this class to learn new things and to get a head start on working with my animals. It has been an amazing experience. If you’re thinking about joining, I really recommend it. It motivated me to become more involved in agriculture and I’ll understand more of the hard work that goes into raising livestock.

Pig Showmanship
Junior Market Swine
Barrow Show
Hampshire Cross Barrow

Seeing others at the fair with pigs and sheep, breeding other animals was inspiring. I just thought that was for adult farmers or something. Turns out with a little help you can breed and take care of your own livestock.

If I were to tell anyone about the class I would tell them the teacher is very nice and passionate about what she does, and you don’t have to figure out the materials.
