Guinea Pig Training Basics: Build Trust, Safety, and a Strong First Routine

Overview

If you’re a new guinea pig owner, youth handler, or project family, you already know bringing home a guinea pig is exciting, but it can also feel like there is a lot to learn all at once. Unfortunately, many beginners make the mistake of rushing into holding, training, or show preparation before learning safe handling, basic behavior, daily care, and observation, but without knowing that trust, safety, and routine come first, you can accidentally make your guinea pig more nervous and feel unsure about what to practice next.

That’s why I created Guinea Pig Training Basics.

This beginner-friendly course helps you slow down and build the basic care and handling skills your guinea pig needs before moving into more advanced training or show preparation. You will learn how to safely pick up, carry, and support your guinea pig, understand basic guinea pig behavior, build trust through calm handling, and create a daily routine that helps your guinea pig feel more comfortable and secure.

We will also cover simple weight management, feeding schedules, safety tips, and how to look at your guinea pig from four basic views so you can better notice comfort, condition, posture, and changes over time.
